Across Australia, parents are building networks to support one another, share knowledge, navigate challenges and advocate for change. ARACY’s Parent Networks in Australia report maps the parent network ecosystem and explores how parent networks strengthen family wellbeing, elevate lived experience, and contribute to stronger outcomes for children, families and communities. The report also introduces a lifecycle model that shows how networks can evolve over time, from responding to a shared need to building leadership, advocacy and influence.
Parent networks are much more than support groups. They reduce isolation, build confidence and capability, help families navigate services, and create opportunities for leadership and advocacy. The research found that parent networks transform lived experience into connection, leadership and systems change, demonstrating that parents are not simply recipients of support, but contributors to solutions.
Despite their value, many parent networks remain under-recognised and under-resourced. The report highlights opportunities for governments, service systems, philanthropy and parent networks themselves to strengthen this important community infrastructure. By investing in parent leadership, participation and connection, we can build more responsive systems and stronger outcomes for children and families.
