ARACY’s youth justice submission outlines evidence-based recommendations for Federal, State and Territory Governments, that reframe youth justice as a child wellbeing issue and call for trauma-informed, prevention-focused, nationally coordinated reform.

This submission sets out ARACY’s key recommendations for Federal, State and Territory Governments to drive a fundamental transformation of Australia’s youth justice system. Drawing on a public health approach to crime prevention and informed by The Nest wellbeing framework, the recommendations recognise that children’s involvement with the justice system is shaped by the interconnected influences of family, community and broader social systems.

ARACY calls for coordinated, long-term leadership across all levels of government to prioritise child safety and wellbeing, embed trauma-informed and therapeutic responses, and meaningfully include children and young people with lived experience in the design, delivery and evaluation of policies and services.
