What We Do
Young and Wise Photovoice
ARACY, together with Deakin University invite young people aged 16 to 25 to participate in a study on how young people experience commercial and economic influences on their health and wellbeing.
This study is being delivered through the Future Healthy Countdown 2030 Youth Committee (ARACY, MCRI, VicHealth and Deakin University), with young people partnering as co-researchers to guide the design, interpretation and impact.
We’re interested in understanding how things like:
- Commercial influences: e.g. marketing, branding, social media, retail environments
- Economic conditions: e.g. employment, physical location and access to services
…affect your physical health, mental health, and social wellbeing in your daily life.
The study uses Photovoice – an exciting research method where you become the photographer and storyteller! You’ll take photos of things in your everyday environment that show these influences, then discuss your experiences through interviews and workshops with other young people and researchers.
What’s involved?
- A 1-hour workshop where you’ll learn more and meet the other participants
- You’ll take 7 photos
- A 30-minute interview to talk about your photos
- An optional workshop to help shape research and policy
Being part of this study is completely voluntary. If you want to be part of the study, we ask that you read the Plain Language Statement carefully and ask us any questions.
Participants will receive financial compensation recognising your time and expertise as a knowledge contributor at $30 per hour for each research activity you complete.

If you’d like to participate, please submit your Expression of Interest via Folktale — this is our preferred way for you to introduce yourself to us.
Follow the instructions in Folktale and make sure you also complete the Expression of Interest form using the link provided, as both steps are required.
Folktale is a safe online platform where you can submit your Expression of Interest as a short video about why you’d like to be involved. If selected, your interview will then take place on Zoom. We are using Folktale for the EOI as we’d like you to be comfortable recording and sharing information on camera.
If you’d prefer not to record a video, you can submit your interest solely by submitting the expression of interest form instead. The link is below.
Selection of participants will be based on reaching a spread of ages and locations.
The first 30 people to register their EOI who meet these requirements will be invited to participate, with a waitlist established for any remaining participants.
