How is The Nest being used?
The development of Maribyrnong’s Strategy for Young People 2014-18 was informed by The Nest framework of understanding and measuring the health and wellbeing of young people. The framework identifies the five Nest domains that need to be present for children and young people to have a ‘good life’ and all their health and wellbeing needs being met.
The framework places these domains in context of supportive systems and environments, encompassing government and non-government partnerships and shared strategies. The framework was the subject of consultations with local young people representing a diversity of backgrounds and life circumstances as well as local service providers to prioritise key focus areas to support young people’s health and wellbeing.
Using the framework, the City of Maribyrnong has developed a strong service sector supporting young people and their families, drawing together a range of service providers and promoting strong cross-sector collaboration. They have also developed a report-card on the health and wellbeing of young people in Maribyrnong which will inform local strategies as well as filling data gaps on wellbeing in conjunction with ARACY’s work at local, state and federal government levels.
