ARACY and the Wellbeing and Prevention Coalition submission to the Productivity Commission

The Wellbeing and Prevention Coalition, of which ARACY is a member, welcomes the Productivity Commission’s interim report Delivering Quality Care More Efficiently.

The report’s recommendations on collaborative commissioning and the proposed National Prevention Investment Framework are promising steps toward addressing Australia’s longstanding underinvestment in prevention—particularly in mental health. Australia currently ranks 27th among OECD countries for prevention spending, with disproportionately low investment directed to the prevention of mental health conditions.

In our submission, we call on the Commission to:

  • Develop a National Prevention Investment Fund that allocates quarantined funding for mental health promotion and prevention.

  • Ensure collaborative commissioning is backed by adequate and sustained investment to maintain strong partnerships.

  • Address the structural drivers of poor mental health—including social and commercial determinants—through coordinated systemic reforms.
